MultiPal DevLog Oct ’24

It’s been a while since the last article on Write Better Netcode. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

The reason for this is, the project has (for the time being) pivoted to becoming an actual game rather than a game creation tool. In lack of an actual title the name “MultiPal” sticks for now.

What will “MultiPal” become?

“MultiPal” will be an online coop shooter with splitscreen play and hordes of enemies. That much is set.

In November it is undergoing a transition from third to first person, and from URP to HDRP, while updating character and animations as well as heavily optimizing its Netcode. So we’re still heavily focused on tech and workflows at this point.

Initial HDRP look-dev tests feel very promising! ๐Ÿ™‚

“MultiPal” itches a scratch with a belovehated game we’ve been playing since 2007.

The game is both cool and awesome at times, but also overwhelmingly frustrating due to its unreliable netcode, weird design choices, and lack of significant improvements.

Which game this is will eventually become clear. For now it shall remain mysterious as we intend to poke some fun in the future.

October 2024 Dev Vlogs

You can view all videos in the MultiPal DevLog Playlist.

Below you’ll find short, and hopefully entertaining, dev logs of our progress. Expect no bugs whatsover. ๐Ÿ˜‰

During the four weeks of development in October together with a friend, we sent each other videos and screenshots to explain, complain, or celebrate victories.

Since it took us four weeks to gather enough material for four ~90 second videos, the videos premiere a week apart every Monday starting Nov 18th.

#1 Animating (Nov 18th, 2024)

#2 Shooting (Nov 25th, 2024)

#3 Enemies (Dec 2nd, 2024)

#4 Looting (Dec 9th, 2024)

The series will continue with more, hopefully still weekly devlog videos. We hope you’ll find them enjoyable! ๐Ÿ˜„

If you do, please like and subscribe!

PS: Sorry about the low video quality in the first videos. This is due to using the Unity Recorder with default settings and low resolution since at the time we didn’t think of publishing these recordings.
